On Thursday, April 23, the Emergency Preparedness and Response (EP&R) Academy, organized by the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) Tokyo Disaster Risk Management Hub, was held at the International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS), Tohoku University.

The Academy was organized to promote mutual learning and technical exchange among government officials from various countries and World Bank teams engaged in strengthening emergency preparedness and response capacities at national and subnational levels. On the day of the event, more than 50 participants attended, including government representatives from 15 World Bank member countries, World Bank teams, and Japanese experts in disaster prevention and disaster risk management.

During the Academy, Sendai City introduced initiatives under the Sendai BOSAI-TECH Platform. In addition, three BOSAI-TECH member companies—IRIS OHYAMA Inc., Hokuryo Co., Ltd., and Spectee Inc.—took the stage to present case studies of their disaster-prevention solution technologies.
The sessions generated numerous questions from participants, fostering active and highly engaged communication and exchange. These interactions also highlighted the strong level of interest in the products and technologies presented by each company.
